The World Council of Churches, WCC has strongly rejected accusation that the National Council of Churches in the Philippines is working for the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army.  WCC General Secretary Rev Dr Olav Fykse Tveit noted that the The National Council of Churches in the Philippines has consistently spoken out against President Rodrigo Duterte’s so-called war on drugs, which has been marked by extra-judicial killings, with perpetrators enjoying almost complete impunity.

Reports are that a new bill that aims to roll out optional Bible classes across Florida’s public schools has advanced to the state Senate. The bill SB 746 was filed by Republican Senator Dennis Baxley. Similar bills have been introduced in Missouri, North Dakota, Virginia and West Virginia.  President Trump has voiced support for such classes.

A week of events to promote tolerance and unity between Christian and other faith groups in the UK was launched yesterday. Interfaith Week will see thousands of people take part in activities across England, Northern Ireland and Wales from 10th to 17th November, to strengthen relationships between people of different religious and non-religious backgrounds.

A recent poll shows 53% of Britons say they have no religion. Amongst the 18-24 age group that figure rises to 75%. The poll also shows only 11% of those with a faith attend a religious service at least once a week and amongst the non-believers 50% say they never pray. Meanwhile, 63% think religion brings more conflict than peace. It is felt these statistics pose serious challenges to Christian Churches that were historically the nation’s principle expression of religious belief.
