The World Council of Churches, WCC is reminding member churches and partners that making factual information from the World Health Organization and national health authorities readily available is one important measure against the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. The WCC also explained that it is necessary to break down messages to local conditions and use the most effective channels to get them across.

According to CBN News the US Centers for Disease Control has issued a troubling report that 38 percent of COVID-19 patients known to be hospitalized in the country are between 20 and 54 years old and 12 percent of intensive care patients are between 20 and 44. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institutes of Health’s Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is reportedly appealing to young people to practice social distancing, as they are at no lesser risk of infection than older people. Meanwhile, Christian leaders continue to issue calls to prayer.

The US Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives at the Department of Health and Human Services has said faith and community leaders have the unique ability to address potential concerns, fears, and anxieties regarding COVID-19.  It is encouraging churches to update contact lists and pay special attention to the vulnerable and those living alone.

As cases of coronavirus across Europe continue to rapidly rise, Pope Francis has prayed to stop the pandemic. According the reports, the Pope said he had asked God to stop the epidemic in Italy with his hand. This comes as Italy is battling with the most acute outbreak of COVID-19 outside of China, with more than 27,000 infections and over 3000 deaths.
