Religious institutions can contribute significantly to a better understanding of hygiene practices through awareness raising and educational measures.  This is according to coordinator of the World Council of Churches, WCC Ecumenical Water Network, Dinesh Suna.  He noted that more than 80% of the world’s population identify themselves with a religion. The WCC official urged development leaders and governments therefore, to consult religious leaders to help ensure correct messaging is passed on.

Chairman of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, Tony Perkins has reportedly said Nigerian Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram is systematically killing Christians and taking them hostage as the government stands by. He added that the number of Nigerian refugees is growing as a result of these violent attacks.

Germany’s Interior Ministry announced today that the Iranian-backed Hezbollah has been classified as a terror organization and all its activity in the country are banned. The announcement came after German officials conducted early morning raids on four mosques believed to be linked to Hezbollah.

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, and leaders in the Methodist Church, Baptist Union and United Reformed Church have sent a joint letter to the UK Chancellor, urging him to refuse financial aid to organisations they claim have avoided paying taxes for years. They argue that during this Covid-19 crisis many of the most vulnerable people in society are paying the price for a health system that’s woefully unprepared, while some large corporations continue to avoid responsibility, hiding their wealth in tax havens.
